FOREST SEASONS turns the forest into a walkable place of longing, shaped by the changing cycle of the seasons. The expansive installation by light and media artist Christopher Bauder combines natural motifs, industrial architecture, and kinetic light art into a layered composition.

Historically, the forest was long regarded as a place of danger and the unknown. Only with Romanticism, and with the accelerating force of industrialization, did this view begin to change. The forest was idealized as a refuge and a place of yearning, a counterworld to the industrial-urban realm. In art, it rose to a central motif and a projection surface for myths and narratives.
Drawing on this lineage, FOREST SEASONS unfolds a dynamic yearly cycle every 45 minutes, continually reimagining the forest. Spring and summer signal the return of vegetation and the fullness of light. Autumn mutes the palette until color becomes memory. Winter follows with a lucid stillness and introspection. The seasonal turn thus becomes a human dramaturgy as well: renewal and growth, departure and rest; nature as a resonant chamber for our most intimate states of mind.

Technically, the artwork is grounded in a precisely choreographed interplay of laser light, projections, kinetic elements and sound. Abstract trees materialize in the space, crowned by modulated drawings of light. Novel, moving video projectors cast dynamic image worlds deep into the architecture. Falling leaves and artificial suns set kinetic accents. Light states, density, and mood shift continuously across a range of scenographic weather conditions.

The visual score rests on the finely balanced soundtrack by Dutch musician Chris Kuijten. His composition extends a branching sound canopy of carefully placed musical impulses, suspended between abstract sound design and tangible melodic threads.
FOREST SEASONS asks visitors to give themselves over to the natural rotation of the seasons. As beauty gives way to transience, the artwork turns into an intimate passage inward.

CHRISTOPHER BAUDER
Christopher Bauder is a German light and media artist. He creates large-scale art installations and performances that explore the effects of light and sound on human perception and emotionality. In doing so, he consciously leaves the traditional museum framework and uses industrial and historical spaces as authentic stages for his light experiments. His works combine sculpture, space and interaction to create multi-sensory art experiences.
As one of the pioneers, he has been shaping the art genres of "Experience Art" and "Kinetic Light Art" for more than 20 years. International solo exhibitions and projects such as the installation "Lichtgrenze" (Light Limit) on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, which inspired millions of visitors, testify to his innovative approach.

CHRIS KUIJTEN
Chris Kuijten, a Dutch composer and producer, delves passionately into the realms of contemporary and electronic music. His musical odyssey commenced with a lot of experience on an array of instruments including piano, flute, saxophone, and clarinet, establishing a sturdy foundation for his artistic expedition. Yet, it was his intrigue with electronic equipment that ignited the flames of his creativity and propelled him into a journey of sonic discovery. The boundless potential presented by samplers, computers, and other electronic tools became his canvas, driving him to perpetually explore novel avenues in music composition.
