ACCESSIBILITY

If you have any questions or need support, then please contact us in advance or at the entrance area. We want your visit to DARK MATTER to be as pleasant as possible. This is important to us. 

 

DARK MATTER offers a barrier-free entrance for visitors with restricted mobility and families with baby carriages.

 

All exhibition rooms are also equipped with barrier-free entrances. 

 

Barrier-free restrooms are located on the ground floor next to the other sanitary facilities.

 

Disability passes marked with a ‘B’ include entry for one accompanying person.

 

Please ensure that walking aids and baby carriages do not obstruct other visitors' path. If these objects block escape routes, then we are required to remove them. We cannot accept liability for damage to or loss of these items.

 

At the entrance, you can obtain hearing protection for a deposit.

The DARK MATTER house rules are binding for all visitors. By entering the museum grounds, visitors acknowledge the regulations and all other instructions issued to maintain operational safety.

 

DARK MATTER is a place for everyone. We are happy about great diversity: Berliners, tourists, families, daycare and school classes, students, seniors, artists, creative people and much more. It is very important to us to make it possible for people of all ages, origins, skin color, sexual orientation and physical impairments to visit us in an extraordinary but uncomplicated way.

In order to provide all our guests with a unique experience at DARK MATTER, we ask you to pay attention to the following rules:

 

1. Opening hours: Notices and public announcements apply. The booked time slots are binding and non-transferable. You will find the ticket regulations separately under TICKETS. If you have any questions, our staff will be happy to help you on site. In special cases we will try to offer you an alternative, but there is no right to a replacement in case of no-shows or delays. 

 

2. Please make sure that your cell phones are switched to silent mode in the rooms. In order for all visitors to enjoy a relaxing stay, we ask you to avoid the use of cell phones (except for taking pictures without flash).

 

3. Photography is only allowed without flash. A maximum of 15 seconds of video recording is permitted. Please note that the use of the images is for private purposes only. Any commercial exploitation of films and photos taken on the premises of DARK MATTER is not allowed or requires the written permission of the management. DARK MATTER may eventually also issue general bans on photography for exhibitions and exhibition rooms or individual objects. 

 

4. Please maintain the necessary distance from the installations. Exceptions are the installations TONE LADDER and POLYGON PLAYGROUND. Here interaction is expressly desired and therefore these installations may be entered and touched. We are especially pleased to welcome our younger guests and ask the accompanying persons to ensure a safe distance and consideration for other visitors at all times.

 

5. You are liable within the framework of the legal regulations for the damages caused by you or those entrusted to you. In case of intentional and negligent triggering of the alarm devices or disturbances that require the interruption of the event, the responsible visitors will bear the costs incurred.

 

6. Please take care of your wardrobe and other private objects. Do not leave any bags or the like unattended in the exhibition area. There are lockers in our entrance area, which you are welcome to use during opening hours. We are not liable for lost or damaged items. If you have found or forgotten items in the rooms or on the exhibition grounds, please inform us. We will be happy to help you.

 

7. Smoking is prohibited in the entire exhibition area. The use of e-cigarettes, shisha and e-shisha or similar is also covered by the smoking ban. Of course the consumption of drugs is strictly forbidden in general, the excessive consumption of alcohol is included here. Persons suspected of being under the influence of illegal drugs or alcohol may be denied entry.

 

8. The consumption of food and beverages is prohibited on the premises.

 

9. Animals, with the exception of trained assistance dogs, are not allowed on the entire premises.

 

10. For your safety the premises are also under video surveillance.

The instructions of the supervisory staff must be followed. In special situations, these instructions may go beyond the instructions for conduct already listed in these house rules. In the event of violations of these or disruptions to exhibition operations, the visitor may be required to leave the premises. In case of recurrence, the visit can be prohibited for a limited or unlimited period of time.

 

The employees of DARK MATTER are permitted to execute the householder's rights in the interest of the management.

 

Please be as calm and considerate as you would expect other visitors to be, so that everyone can have a good time at DARK MATTER.

    The regular ONLINE ticket costs: 18.00 EUR - Tuesday - Friday 20.00 EUR - Saturday, Sunday & Holidays Tuesday is family day. An ONLINE ticket for children (7-12 years) costs EUR 12.50 (only available on Tuesdays). Thursday is pupil and student day. To avoid long waiting times at the entrance, the day at DARK MATTER is divided into timeslots. The tour through the rooms with 7 installations takes about 1-2 hours. Re-entry is not possible.
  • When should i arrive on site?
    Owing to safety and hygiene regulations, we kindly ask you to arrive 10 minutes before your booked slot.
  • What happens if i arrive too late?
    Late entry after your booked slot is not possible. In this case, your ticket will be invalidated. We cannot offer a refund or rebooking. This also applies if you do not come at all on the day for which you have purchased a ticket.
  • Can more than one person enter with my ticket?
    Each visitor needs to bring their own ticket. In this way, we can ensure that your experience is not disrupted by too many people being on-site at any one time, and that safety regulations may be observed without difficulty.
  • Can i transfer my ticket to someone else?
    Yes. The tickets are not personalized.
  • Can i buy multiple tickets?
    You can enter the desired number of tickets in the ticket portal (max. 25 per time slot). Important: If only "1" is displayed for your booking, this is the last available ticket for this time slot.
  • Can i change the entry date of my ticket?
    Tickets are issued by an automatic system and cannot be exchanged for technical reasons.
  • Do i need to print out my ticket?
    We ask all visitors to save the resources of our environment and to avoid using paper print-outs. You can gain entry by showing the ticket on your mobile.
  • What counts as proof of eligibility for a student ticket?
    Thursday is pupil and student day. Student tickets are only offered to this group of visitors. - A school or university ID card that is properly dated and confirms that one is pursuing a full-time course of study - A current dated letter on university or school letterhead with an official stamp confirming full-time student status - For international students - Certified translations of the above documents or ISIC card.
  • Is my ticket valid for all areas of the exhibition?
    The DARK MATTER permanent exhibition ticket gives you access to all halls on the site. For other events and special exhibitions, such as SOMMERLIGHTS or WINTERLIGHTS, you will need a separate ticket.
  • If all the tickets for a particular date are sold out online, is there another way to buy them?
    If a time slot is no longer available via the ticket system, we have reached the maximum capacity for the respective period.
  • Can i return my ticket and get a refund?
    Unfortunately, we cannot refund or return online tickets. However, under certain circumstances, your ticket may be transferred to another person. Please contact our customer service directly.
  • Can i reserve a ticket and pick it up at the entrance?
    Your ticket must be booked in advance and you must bring it with you to the exhibition. Unfortunately, we are not able to make reservations or keep a guest list. Anyone who has forgotten their ticket will not be allowed onto the exhibition site.
  • When can i visit DARK MATTER?
    The exhibition is open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2pm to 10pm; Fridays from noon to 11pm; Saturdays from 11am to 11pm; and Sundays from 11am to 10pm. Last admission is 45 minutes before closing time. Tickets are booked for one specific time slot. If you leave the last exhibition hall, you are not allowed back in.
  • Are there any lockers available?
    There is limited locker availability in the entrance area for smaller bags. Unfortunately, we cannot store larger items of luggage such as suitcases.
  • How warm is the venue?
    The exhibition rooms are maintained at a low temperature, so outdoor clothing is suitable attire for visitors. When visiting the museum, we suggest you wear comfortable clothes and flat shoes.
  • Dresscode?
    If you come dressed completely in black, and say the code word: BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL, you will receive a small gift at the entrance ;-)
  • Can i take my luggage through the exhibition?
    For reasons of safety and space, it is not permitted to bring large objects such as suitcases into the exhibition area. Smaller bags can be left in the lockers in the entrance area. It is important to note that any object that, in the opinion of the attendant, could be considered dangerous to other visitors will not be permitted in the exhibition area.
  • Is there a lost & found office?
    If you have lost or found an item of property, please contact our service staff, preferably directly at the entrance, and our DARK MATTER team will be happy to help you. Please do not leave any bags or objects lying around, as they could constitute a tripping hazard.
  • Can i bring animals to the exhibition?
    Please leave your dogs, cats, guinea pigs, goldfish and other pets at home. Animals are strictly forbidden on site.

    Each visitor needs to bring their own ticket. In this way, we can ensure that your experience is not disrupted by too many people being on-site at any one time, and that safety regulations may be observed without difficulty.

    Yes. The tickets are not personalized.
  • Can i buy multiple tickets?
    You can enter the desired number of tickets in the ticket portal (max. 25 per time slot). Important: If only "1" is displayed for your booking, this is the last available ticket for this time slot.
  • Can i change the entry date of my ticket?
    Tickets are issued by an automatic system and cannot be exchanged for technical reasons.
  • Do i need to print out my ticket?
    We ask all visitors to save the resources of our environment and to avoid using paper print-outs. You can gain entry by showing the ticket on your mobile.
  • What counts as proof of eligibility for a student ticket?
    Thursday is pupil and student day. Student tickets are only offered to this group of visitors. - A school or university ID card that is properly dated and confirms that one is pursuing a full-time course of study - A current dated letter on university or school letterhead with an official stamp confirming full-time student status - For international students - Certified translations of the above documents or ISIC card.
  • Is my ticket valid for all areas of the exhibition?
    The DARK MATTER permanent exhibition ticket gives you access to all halls on the site. For other events and special exhibitions, such as SOMMERLIGHTS or WINTERLIGHTS, you will need a separate ticket.
  • If all the tickets for a particular date are sold out online, is there another way to buy them?
    If a time slot is no longer available via the ticket system, we have reached the maximum capacity for the respective period.
  • Can i return my ticket and get a refund?
    Unfortunately, we cannot refund or return online tickets. However, under certain circumstances, your ticket may be transferred to another person. Please contact our customer service directly.
  • Can i reserve a ticket and pick it up at the entrance?
    Your ticket must be booked in advance and you must bring it with you to the exhibition. Unfortunately, we are not able to make reservations or keep a guest list. Anyone who has forgotten their ticket will not be allowed onto the exhibition site.
  • When can i visit DARK MATTER?
    The exhibition is open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2pm to 10pm; Fridays from noon to 11pm; Saturdays from 11am to 11pm; and Sundays from 11am to 10pm. Last admission is 45 minutes before closing time. Tickets are booked for one specific time slot. If you leave the last exhibition hall, you are not allowed back in.
  • Are there any lockers available?
    There is limited locker availability in the entrance area for smaller bags. Unfortunately, we cannot store larger items of luggage such as suitcases.
  • How warm is the venue?
    The exhibition rooms are maintained at a low temperature, so outdoor clothing is suitable attire for visitors. When visiting the museum, we suggest you wear comfortable clothes and flat shoes.
  • Dresscode?
    If you come dressed completely in black, and say the code word: BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL, you will receive a small gift at the entrance ;-)
  • Can i take my luggage through the exhibition?
    For reasons of safety and space, it is not permitted to bring large objects such as suitcases into the exhibition area. Smaller bags can be left in the lockers in the entrance area. It is important to note that any object that, in the opinion of the attendant, could be considered dangerous to other visitors will not be permitted in the exhibition area.
  • Is there a lost & found office?
    If you have lost or found an item of property, please contact our service staff, preferably directly at the entrance, and our DARK MATTER team will be happy to help you. Please do not leave any bags or objects lying around, as they could constitute a tripping hazard.
  • Can i bring animals to the exhibition?
    Please leave your dogs, cats, guinea pigs, goldfish and other pets at home. Animals are strictly forbidden on site.

  • Ticket price
    The regular ONLINE ticket costs: 18.00 EUR - Tuesday - Friday 20.00 EUR - Saturday, Sunday & Holidays Tuesday is family day. An ONLINE ticket for children (7-12 years) costs EUR 12.50 (only available on Tuesdays). Thursday is pupil and student day. An ONLINE ticket for students costs 14.00 EUR (only available on Thursdays). The number of tickets that are available each day is currently limited. One valid ticket is required per person. Younger children must be accompanied by an adult. Please check our ticket shop. Please book tickets ONLINE. Tickets on site will only be sold in exceptional cases. The price is 22.00 EUR and availability cannot be guaranteed.
  • How long is my ticket valid?
    We have put a lot of thought and planning into this so that you can enjoy your stay in peace and not have too many people on the premises at once. To avoid long waiting times at the entrance, the day at DARK MATTER is divided into timeslots. The tour through the rooms with 7 installations takes about 1-2 hours. Re-entry is not possible.
