Christopher Bauder & Team:
Light and Media Art Visionaries
Christopher Bauder is a German light and media artist whose large-scale art installations and performances explore the effects of light, space, movement and sound on human perception and emotion.

A graduate of the Berlin University of the Arts, Bauder works worldwide as an artist who focuses on the transfer of bits and bytes into real space and vice versa. For more than two decades, he has skilfully combined technical sophistication with artistic sensitivity to create multi-sensory art experiences. Deliberately breaking away from the traditional museum setting, he uses industrial and urban spaces as authentic stages for his light experiments.

As a pioneer of 'Experience Art' and 'Kinetic Light Art', he has been instrumental in shaping these new art genres and continues to define the future of visual culture with his innovative spirit. Christopher Bauder's international recognition is reflected in a large number of solo exhibitions and performances that have attracted worldwide attention. Over one million tickets sold for his art installations and live performances in the last 10 years alone testify to the universal fascination and timeless appeal of his immersive art worlds. His most iconic work, the city-wide installation 'Lichtgrenze' to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, attracted 2 million visitors in just one weekend.
In 2004 he founded the art and design studio WHITEvoid. The studio's interdisciplinary team of architects, scenographers, mechanics, electronics and software engineers form the backbone of a wide range of innovative art and design projects. The studio's numerous awards, including the International Lighting Design Award, the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Red Dot Design Award, the iF Communication Design Award and the Cannes Lions, testify to the high artistic and technical standards of Christopher Bauder and his WHITEvoid team.

Bauder founded KINETIC LIGHTS in 2009. The company was the first to specialise in the development and production of motorised cable winch systems for the spatial movement of a wide range of light sources. This step set new standards in lighting technology and established a completely new segment in international event technology, now also called "Kinetic Lighting". With his products, he created innovative kinetic lighting concepts that reinterpreted the airspace above the audience and the stage. As a result, Bauder has inspired and revolutionised the look of concert stages and event spaces around the world.

DARK MATTER was created in 2021 to provide a permanent home in Berlin for some of Christopher Bauder's work spanning more than 20 years. Many of the works on display have been exhibited around the world before being brought together in a permanent exhibition with the opening of DARK MATTER. The expansive former factory site is divided into several exhibition areas filled with permanent and temporary artworks.

Christopher Bauder lives and works in Berlin, a creative melting pot and ideal incubator for his avant-garde visions. His art is more than light, space, movement and sound; it is an invitation to immerse oneself with all the senses in a world where technology and emotion, innovation and poetry engage in a passionate dialogue. The lasting impact of his work and his constant search for new forms of expression make Bauder one of the most innovative and versatile artists of our time. His work to date is exemplary of an art in constant flux. An art that repeatedly summons the courage to transcend old boundaries and reinvent itself.
